BMWK-funded project THERMOPEM
Since the end of 2022 we have been working on the development of a new measurement method for the thermal characterization of the functional layers of a PEM fuel cell.
With the new method it should be possible to measure the heat transport properties (thermal conductivity and contact resistance) of membrane-electrode assemblies and their components under defined boundary and operating conditions. Temperature, humidity and surface pressure should be adjustable based on fuel cell operation.
A first prototype of the measuring device has already been set up. Extensive tests and optimizations are scheduled for the next few months.
As early as next year we want to be able to apply the new method to the systematic analysis of commercial materials. With the developed method, we want to be able to carry out both transient and stationary measurements and determine the thermal conductivity of all materials both in and through the plane.

New joint project "TIMO" (thermal interface materials - surface influences) - Kick off in October
We have already informed you several times about our planned joint project "TIMO" (Thermal Interface Materials - Oberflaecheneinfluesse). The final project plan is now in place.
At a final meeting on September 14th, we will present the calculated costs, and then it should finally start! Many interested parties have already confirmed their participation.
