Newsletter 02/23

Dear Customer,

Today we are presenting our special highlight: the new IPC standard IPC-TM-650, number 2.4.54 for the precise determination of heat transport properties.

Under the leadership of the ZFW, a new measurement standard based on the ZFW TIM tester was discussed with international partners - with the introduction of this norm, our technology is the global standard for the thermal characterization of MBPB materials!

MBPB circuit boards have a metallic layer of aluminum or copper that is used for cooling at high power densities such as e.g. LED applications is used. The precision of the contacting of the samples and the determination of the layer thickness is a particular challenge. In the past, comparative measurements in different laboratories showed a wide scattering of the results. It was therefore difficult for the manufacturers to meet the required quality standards.

Thanks to the excellent precision of the ZFW TIM tester, the IPC-TM-650 standard, number 2.4.54 "Test Method for Thermal Transmission Properties of Metal Based Printed Boards (MBPB)" is now available.

The ZFW is already working on a new system for thermomechanical testing of thermally conductive materials, which is supported by the IPC.

In addition, the ZFW Academy '23 is very popular - maybe there's something for you too?! Have a look at our homepage!

Next week´s agenda:

Module 05 - Printed Circuit Boards and Substrates, March 1, 2023, 08:15 -11:30 o´clock

The contents of this module include the structure of printed circuit boards, taking into account various factors such as base material, solder mask, soldering and bonding surfaces; the comparison of microvias, filled/unfilled, staggered, stacked, skipped; Circuit boards with cavities, integrated components, flex, semi-flex, 3D-MID (Molded Interconnect Devices), edge metallization; important points in the process analysis, such as troubleshooting and quality control.
