We are still there for you!

Dear customers,
the corona virus pandemic poses great challenges for all of us. Many companies are hit hard. With the help of home office, spatial redistribution and vacation, we try to minimize the risk of infection.
A spontaneous move to new rooms enables us to keep our distance and at the same time maintain the ability of our employees to work. There are office and laboratory areas in the new location, in which we can continue to carry out almost all of our measurements. Thanks to VPN and remote maintenance software, we can easily do simulations from our homes.
We are happy to support you spontaneously in bridging the crisis and help with development tasks, measurements and simulations. We would be happy to conduct training courses and seminars on all aspects of thermal management with you online. Please contact us!
Take care of yourself and stay safe and sound!

We have moved into a new test laboratory in Stuttgart Feuerbach

We have set up a new laboratory in Stuttgart Feuerbach to investigate the lifetime studies of thermal interface materials.

Our power cycling tests of gap fillers and thermal pastes will run here from mid-February.

Merry Christmas!

2019 was a turbulent year, especially for Germany as an industrial location. There were some challenges for us too, but it was a successful year. We owe this to the many exciting projects and the constructive cooperation with you! Many Thanks!

We have already planned many projects for 2020. In addition to the move to new office and laboratory space, there will be interesting encounters and collaborations in the context of our conferences and seminars, the Cooling Days, PCIM Europe and other collaborations at and with the ZFW, which we are very much looking forward to.

We say goodbye to this year and wish you a peaceful and relaxed end of the year as well as a good start into the coming year 2020. We will be back for you from January 7th, 2020!

Recently published: "Thermal Management in Electronics: Theory and Practice" at Springer Vieweg Verlag

"Thermal Management in Electronics: Theory and Practice" at Springer Vieweg Verlag.

In this book, Prof. A. Griesinger from the ZFW Stuttgart gives an overview of the thermal management of electronic systems.

In addition to the physical principles of heat transfer, passive and active cooling methods are presented. This includes technologies at component and substrate level, thermal interface materials, heat sinks, fans and heat pipes.

Established and new measurement methods are described for the analysis of thermal paths. These provide thermophysical properties and thermal contact resistance.

You can order the book in bookstores, from the publisher or from Amazon.

The proceeds go entirely to the German Cancer Aid.

Full house at the Thermomanagement 4.0 conference

This year's ZFW conference took place on June 25, 2019 in the Haus der Wirtschaft in Stuttgart. The latest developments on the subject of thermal management were discussed with speakers from the Formula Student team at DHBW Stuttgart, the companies Kärcher, MAHLE Behr, Porsche and the ZFW.

The next conference on June 24, 2020 is already being planned.

ZFW Stuttgart presents a new measuring method at the PCIM in Nuremberg

The thermal and fluid mechanical characterization of liquid heat sinks is a challenge. To date, there is no standard that describes the measurement setup for it. For this reason, measuring technology was developed at the ZFW with which liquid heat sinks can be measured precisely and in a fully defined manner. This allows cooling structures to be optimized close to the application. The new technology was presented for the first time at the PCIM in Munich.

Article in TRANSFER magazine

An article about the ZFW was published in the online magazine of the Steinbeis group TRANSFER (issue 04/2018). Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas Griesinger answered questions from the magazine and answered questions such as:

"The global increase in environmental awareness, the demand for sustainability and the need to use less energy, place new demands on thermal management in electronics. Where do you see the greatest challenges and how can the measuring system you have developed help to master them successfully?"

All questions and answers are available online here.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas means time to relax, time to pause and review the year. At the same time, we are looking ahead at the end of the year, full of anticipation and confidence.

2018 was a successful and eventful year behind us. We would like to thank you for the good and trusting cooperation. We are already looking forward to the many other exciting projects in the coming year!

In addition to the start of our joint project "TIMPA", in which many well-known companies are participating, our conference "Thermomanagement 4.0" on June 25, 2019 is at the top of our list. Maybe you will be there?

We wish you peaceful hours with your loved ones for Christmas and a Happy New Year at the turn of the year. Stay healthy!

Joint project: Thermal interface material - test methods and failure mechanisms (TIMPA)

The applications and requirements for TIMs are changing rapidly. The drivers are e-mobility, autonomous driving and LED technology. Large markets and production capacities arise, but information on service life and application-specific failure mechanisms is only incomplete.

This is where our joint project comes into play:

The aim is to define accelerating tests that map the aging behavior of thermal interface materials in real installation and thus lead to a strengthening of the competitiveness of all project partners involved.

Our kick-off event on Thursday, July 26, 2018 was very well attended: a good 20 industrial partners took the opportunity to discuss the possibilities of a joint project with us in Stuttgart.

As of today, there is a great deal of interest, and AUDI AG has already made a firm commitment. If you want to be part of the project, we will be happy to send you the documents. Please request this from melanie.litzkow (at) zfw-stuttgart.de at.

Conference "Thermal Contacts"

Our conference again took place on June 26th at the Haus der Wirtschaft in Stuttgart with great success. On the subject "Thermal contacts" There were exciting lectures and many interesting conversations and discussions, for which, as always, the time seemed far too short. Subsequently, Prof. Griesinger presented a planned joint project, for which a number of well-known industrial partners could spontaneously get enthusiastic. Within the project - supported by the partners - intensive research and measurements on thermal interface materials are carried out at the ZFW. The results are then available within the network.

In order to meet the desire for more time and space for discussions, lectures, but also arrival and departure, our conference will take place over two days in 2019.

We look forward to that "Thermal management 4.0" on June 25, 2019!
